Understanding Metrics Storage and Access Options
Last updated: February 10, 2026
Porter stores metrics data for 30 days and logs for 7 days by default in your cluster. There are several ways to access and visualize this data:
Built-in Dashboard
The default Porter dashboard in the Metrics tab provides basic metrics visualization with views with flexible time windows.
Using Grafana Add-on
For more advanced visualization needs and longer time windows, you can use the Grafana add-on, which offers:
Direct access to metrics stored in your cluster's Prometheus instance
Custom dashboard creation
Flexible time window options
No additional cost for metrics storage
Data Storage with Grafana
When using the Grafana add-on:
Metrics and logs data are read directly from Prometheus and Loki in your cluster
Only Grafana configuration data (users, teams, dashboards) needs to be persisted
You can use the persistent data feature with RDS to store Grafana configuration (available for AWS clusters)
If you need metrics data beyond 30 days or require additional analytics capabilities, you can integrate with external monitoring services like DataDog, New Relic or Mezmo through our add-ons system.
